2009 ChardonnayIn true big country Woop Woop mode, Chardonnay grapes were soured from credible South Australian wine regions, namely McLaren Vale and the Riverland. McLaren Vale, one of Australia's outstanding grape growing areas with a history dating back to plantings in 1850, combines warm sunny days with fresh sea breezes from Gulf St Vincent and chilling gully winds from the Mount Lofty ranges to temper extremes of summer heat and retain crisp acidity and structure. Good winter rains and low humidity ensure consistency of ripening and premium quality over an undulating topography on a variety of soils. The Riverland is Australia's largest wine region, and is fed by the Murray RIver. It has a crucial place in Australia's "food bowl", as wine grapes coexist with citrus orchards and almond plantations. The climate is Continental; long sunshine hours to ensure fruit ripens fully in the river valley and Mallee soils. Chardonnay is a popular variety grown in the Riverland. From delicious, crisp stone fruits combined with hints of lemon blossom and skins
of lime, Woop Woop Chardonnay from Vintage 2009 is a medium-bodied, richly
fruity, dry wine suited to consumption over the next year or so. Tank fermented with minimal lees contact, this classy unwooded refresher shows
distinctive aromatics and a well-balanced palate. Made with much enthusiasm by
winemaker, Ben Riggs and his team, Woop Woop Chardonnay will compliment a
wide variety of meal choices, especially those with an ocean association. Woop Woop Chardonnay, a classic Australian that’s “out there from out there!” |
